Overcome.
The ability to overcome adversity is perhaps the number one gift cycling gives to us.
But the gift of overcoming the pain from the workouts is just where that gift begins. Cycling can teach us to overcome so much more than just pain.
Think of the struggles you experience in cycling outside of the pain.
Have you ever found yourself quitting in the middle of a workout, blaming it on a “just not having it?”
What about dropping out of a race when things were not going right?
Or how about being stuck days on end in a mental funk, maybe on a loss of motivation from your year not going the way you planned (ie 2020)?
Just like in life, in cycling things don’t always work out. Sh$!t happens and we often we fall short when our experiences do not match up with our expectations.
Cycling will teach you how to overcome moments like these be changing your thinking, you just have to be open to letting it.
Instead of getting “stuck” in these moments, shift your mindset focus and use them to personally grow. The reality is, these “bad” times are where you will actually find what you need to create the “good.” New abilities are built when you pivot and overcome the bad.
Change your mindset and perspective to now look at experiences, events, and days that do not live up to your expectations as GROWTH. With each of these moments that you fall short, see as an opportunity to pivot, adapt, and GROW new ability, skill, and knowledge.
In contrast, look at experiences, events, and days that do go as planned, or “good” as PRACTICE. The truth is when it goes to plan, you are simply practicing what you already can do. You are using our ability, skill, and direction that you already have.
To progress in cycling and in life, from a high-performance perspective, you need both continuous GROWTH and PRACTICE. Progress is a constant balance between these two.
OVERCOME the bad days by changing your perspective of what they represent in your progress and acknowledge that in your journey you need them to get to the next level.
Let’s go guys! ALL IN to OVERCOME!!!
