Ever watch the key move go and feel totally stuck, frozen, unable to follow? In CINCH we call that the Moment of Urgency. It’s brutal, but it’s also beatable.
Here are 3 practical tips to help you follow instead of freeze next time:
1) Define your WHY before every ride.
Start each session or race by naming your purpose. Most likely it’s to push, improve, or compete. That “why” doesn’t line up with sitting up or giving up, it lines up with trying. Hold it when the pressure hits.
2) Let your effort, not other people, dictate your value.
When you bridge up or lead the charge, don’t let ego make you sprint too hard. When you get dropped, don’t let shame punish you. Own your effort. Your worth is what you put in, not what others do.
3) Stop predicting the future, act in the present.
Thinking “I can’t follow this” or “this will never work” robs you of performance. Most winning moves succeed because others choose not to go. Don’t pre-quit. If the move goes, go with it. See what happens.
Next time you feel that freeze, breathe, remember your why, let effort be your measure, and move in the moment. Chances are the move is worth trying.
Let’s get better at following the moment. All in!
